What is Homeopathy and how does it work?
Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine developed in the late 18th century by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann who was a scholar and a medical doctor in Germany. He found a natural law, the Law of Similars, or “like cures like”, which is one of the foundational principles of homeopathy. It states that any substance which can cause symptoms in a healthy person can help to heal those experiencing similar symptoms when given in a very minute amount.
Homeopathy is a system of healing that treats the person, not the disease. It treats the whole person – I consider your mental, emotional and physical symptoms to get a picture of your state and who you are as a person. I want to get to know you as a unique person and what distinguishes you as an individual. No set of individuals, symptoms or diseases are exactly the same. They differ in how they are expressed or how they affect different people, that’s why I will prescribe a medicine that is specifically customized for you. Every client using homeopathy will have a very different and customized treatment plan and their own path to healing.
I want to know about your current state as well as previous significant experiences that have impacted you all the way from the beginning and throughout your life. In addition to building a timeline, I look for themes, patterns and connections in your case that explain how the illness is expressed and that point to the correct medicine. I may also consider the social, environmental, cultural, genetic, dietary and other aspects of your case to find a suitable remedy.
Homeopathic medicines (or remedies) are derived from either plants, minerals or animals. They are frequency medicine and work on an energetic level. They are highly diluted, safe and have no side effects. The remedy stimulates your body to establish an equilibrium, bring an overall balance and stimulate your body’s natural ability to heal. In that sense, it modulates function and builds your system’s resilience. It is a gentle and natural approach and can have wonderful results in uprooting disease permanently.
What to expect in a homeopathic consultation?
When I meet with you for the first time during the initial consultation, we’ll have a chance to talk for an hour and half. It can be done either in person for local clients, or online in a video call. During this time, my goal is to listen to your story and understand your health needs and priorities. You get to share everything that concerns you – physical as well as mental and emotional symptoms in as much detail as you want. This is your time to describe how your condition is expressed in daily life and how it affects you. I will also ask you questions in order to better understand your experience of the situation. I take extensive notes as I later do my research and analysis and also to establish a baseline for future evaluation. You may submit any current diagnostic tests, lab results or any relevant information from other healthcare providers in order to have a comprehensive view of your condition.
Follow up appointments take about 45 minutes and are usually done every 4-6 weeks until treatment is no longer needed. During a follow up, I will check on your progress and determine the next steps in the healing process. Acute consultations work similarly, except with many frequent check-ins in the span of 5-6 days.
All information shared and discussed will be kept confidential. Your information is also protected by HIPPA law.
